Ernie and the guys did a good job of preparing me for the start of my trucking career. The rest was up to me. Getting started with U.S. Xpress, I was given a trainer and started a process of learning that will never end.
At first, it was a struggle to earn much money but after a while on the road I learned to manage my H.O.S. With that, and a little hard work, the income came up. OTR was not my end goal so after 14 months with the same company and no tickets or violations I was able to get a job with Averitt Express driving a day cab. Now I’m home every night and off weekends making close to the same income.
Looking back now, the time and expense paid getting my CDL was well worth it. I’ll always have a job being a CDL holder, trucking companies are always hiring!
